We were saddened to receive the resignation of Sharon Roil who has been our Senior Practitioner working in the area for the past three years. Sharon’s last day will be September 7th. Sharon has done a great job setting up the service, and developing it over the three years. Our service in Tauranga Moana has consisted of the one social worker, and as such it has meant Sharon has had to be able to work independently for this time. We got around this problem by making Fridays a Hamilton day, which was her admin day, but it also allowed her to feel part of the CFSS team. This was important as it would have been easy to become isolated from the work of the greater team. We are also grateful to the parish teams, and to the local network of social service agencies, who have been so supportive of Sharon.
Sharon has achieved much over the past few years, including the establishment of the LINK volunteer mentoring service. This is still developing, but it has had successes already. We are in the process of evaluating this service. We have had our challenges in Tauranga Moana however, given that we do not have any contracts to provide our service. We have struggled over the past year to raise sufficient funds to provide this service, but our Board is fully committed to seeing the service grow and thrive. We will be advertising this position on SEEK sometime before mid September, but we are going to conduct a brief review of the service with the priests before we do this.
