On behalf of all the staff I would like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year. I would ask everyone to remember those who struggle at this time though. For our staff this is the busiest time of the year, as we try to ensure that all those who use our services have enough to get by on over this period. While some struggle just to provide the basics, most just are unable to provide that little extra that we are all accustomed to to celebrate Christmas. Even providing presents for children can be a challenge for those on limited incomes. For those who have read the Child Poverty Monitor report released recently, you will know that 90,000 children in NZ live in households with material hardship. These are some of the families we support. It is shocking to think that in something like 30 years we have gone from a country commonly known as the best place in the world to bring up children (and I am aware for many this was a myth), to a third world country for our children. Lets pray and work together next year to try to change this statistic. I do also just want to acknowledge all those wonderful people who have helped us help these families. St Vincent de Paul provides toys and Xmas hampers, Greenlea Foundation has always been there to provide material help, St Josephs School for the wonderful boxes of presents which our families just loved, Kiwanis for dropping off the stuffed toys, Foodbank for providing food to those in need, and to all those wonderful individuals who drop things off, thank you. You really do make us feel humbled at your generosity. Thanks again. Our office will be closed from Friday 23rd December till Wednesday 4th January.
